i think it would be a not totally necessary but great to have the 2 players on 2 separate monitors, so the plyaers cannot see what the other is up to
but then, there might be on the faq on the official page saying some reason that the developers might be reluctant to add a multiplayer mode, but maybe the feature could be added in an unofficial branch of nb
if nb or an unofficial branch of nb ever gets multiplayer mode, dont forget that
if you look at www.artsoft.org you can see that i think rocks'n'diamonds finally as an online mode. if nb or an unofficial branch ever gets multiplayer, online mode would catch it up with this other relatively old from the early 2000's or mid or late 1990's opensource originally linux (i think for both of them) vg :0

Doing it turn-based (like Neverputt and Super Monkey Ball) wouldn't be a bad idea.
