Topic: It the it's levels (12/30/15 continuation)

Hello,

After a long time without any new levels, I've added a new level to my set, called "Bounce Box." When I create more levels (I have ideas for quite a few more), this one will definitely remain a bonus level. It's pretty difficult; I have only gone through its two sections (getting the coins and reaching the goal) separately, but I know it's possible. I hope you like it! wink

Hopefully I'll be able to create all of my ideas after a while. I will continue to post a screenshot for each of my upcoming levels as I make them and upload the updated sets here (like Elviz). I've switched from using the 'V' convention to the 'r' convention. For any levels, I'm open to suggestions+feedback for any adjustments to the time limit, etc. I'm also open to suggestions for default records for levels (right now for "Bounce Box" in particular).

At first glance it is very colorful and attractive, a little difficult to understand. Although I did not win... it is perfect as a bonus level. good work smile

Please only look at this replay if you get too stuck trying to win my level. It shows the second part of winning the level (reaching the goal) being done separately.

Triple Trouble Thwomps

This level turned out a bit more difficult than I intended. Fortunately, I could clear all of the level in the same run, unlike with my previous level (Bounce Box). There's a good deal of optional coins; I'm sure they're all are reachable, but I don't know if I set the time limit high enough (7 min and 45 sec). If you grab all the coins, please post a replay. I will probably post a small revision later!

There are now 2 bonus levels in my set. smile I have 2 more ideas for bonus levels. I had quite a bit of trouble testing both bonus levels. tongue Now I'm determined to make some medium non-bonus levels!

I'm glad I found a good place to use Tones's turf-disco texture. Moreover, I made a level which is a bit less difficult and not a bonus level. You can always try collecting all the coins when you want a challenge. This is also my first maze level.

Note: In the first level, I originally used a hole I copied from one of Dave's levels. Now I've made my own 16-sided hole to go over the goal. Not that I don't like his holes, but I just wanted to do it now that I've found out how to make holes with the standard geometry. (I made a ring in the curve tool with the "slope" attribute set to 0, snapped all vertices on the 0.125 grid, and then moved the outer vertices to make a square.) I also added a couple blue coins to grab for challenge. smile

New level: Lighted Warpzone
Lighted Warpzone

This level is inspired by CSY's Warpzone level. What makes it different is that it you ride on a barrel rather than a flat surface, and most of the walls will "fry" (mark as fallen-out) your ball if you touch them. I hope you like the difficulty! Now I'm working on the level to go before this one, which will be mostly a coin-grab level to provide balls in challenge mode. This is my first level to incorporate rotation. big_smile

(The new level is now in release #8.5 of my set. --
It's a half-release because I'm hoping to do the preceding level soon!)

Hi,

I replaced the file attachment iti_levels_r8_5.zip with iti_levels_r9.zip. This file is the one that I had linked to on Steam. The newer file includes the level "Ordinary Level with No Name." The two potienially impossible levels have been moved to the file iti_levels_imp.zip.

New level: Thwomp Catapults
(I decided to stop posting screenshots to save spoilers.)

This the consummation of a level that I started in 2012. Instead of acting as obstacles, the thwomps in this level are conveyances to advance through the level. Two elements in addition to the catapults are somewhat thin rails and a grid of moving platforms, sort of in the fashion of RTF 02. I kept collecting all of the coins from being as much of a chore as in my two levels that are so far bonuses.

New Level: Air Slalom

This is the second warpzone-style level in the set  with a twist. It reminds me of Krappy Krap's two levels consisting of a func_train that push the ball down a ramp.

Revised Level: Wood'n'Glass

Thanks go to dtb for re-uploading this level. The layout of the brushes is unchanged; the only change to the game play is in the coins. The rest of the changes are merely aesthetic.

@CSY: It turns out that when I was setting the attributes of the level in 2011, I had made a single-character mistake using a text editor (probably Notepad). Fixing this mistake was all I had to to do edit the level again.  smile

New level: Invisible Land

This level is quite reminiscent of TDF 06; however, it is somewhat less flat. It is another medium-ish level to balance out the harder levels in the set.

This is the third level that is either a consummation of a level from a set of unfinished levels I uploaded a while ago, or an inspiration from one of these levels.

You showed a bit of a different way of landing on the chrome section. The only way I thought to avoid falling in the hole is to ram hard against the edge after entering the teleport. But you showed you can do it more slowly and smoothly, without having to bounce up much at all.

I have finally made some decent progress in your set, and I have to say, these levels are really good! (And extremely hard) They are really well polished, creative, and fun! big_smile The bonus levels are awesome too, I love big levels! smile These would be really cool to have in the next release! smile



Although, I have one suggestion:
Right now I am up to level 07 (Thwomp Catapult) which is really hard, and I went into cheatmode only to find out the next level was much easier than the last 4 levels (But it’s still an awesome levels smile). I think you should swap environments with Invisible Land IF you want a balanced difficulty curve.

Actually, when testing a good deal of my lvls I had a terrible time...  tongue  But I already (basically) like how they are. If I make any big changes, I was already planning to save the diff versions of my lvlset on github or something.             Also I have to say that in the melon lvl and the TripleTroubleThwomps lvl, when I get around to it I want to make the paths a bit less involved/repetitive so it easier to get all the coins in less time. good tip. But I donot really care the order of difficulty of the lvls, as long as they are not too close to the end, meaning it might be too hard to beat challenge mode.

Some time ago I was thinking of maybe asking abt how you can make your lvlset official if it is approved. This would be when I have a full/complete set. I try to follow the editing recommendations incl in visuals sort of because of someday maybe becoming official lvls. The other reason is I can be a bit picky sometimes. (on other hand I really like the "cheap" notepad look of ht-never's old notepad lvls smile )

Your TTThwomps is awesome and super fun! smile I've seen that you were planning to make edits to this level, so I have two suggestions for the main box in your level.

1. That red coin is near impossible to get with those 2 fast moving thwomps. Maybe try to slow them down a little and that's really it.. (see ttt1)


2. I think there's too much going on in the regions I circled. There are so much fast moving thwomps it's hard to keep track of what's going on. It gets a little chaotic in there. (see ttt2)


That's really it. Everything else is possible and fine in the level. The time set on it is fine too. smile

now that you mention ideas 1 and 2 I want to keep these 2 aspects of the center box the same tongue this is b/c of the chaos and the thn abt being nearly impossible

oh and btw, as i try to say in the lvlset info angled acceleration can help. You might be saying "nearly impossible" and "too chaotic" b/c I probably used angled acceleration when testing these 2 points in the lvl tongue    in general in this lvlset I think I rely a bit too much on angled acceleration sometimes tongue

The main thing that I would want to ch in this lvl is all the symmetry. The big purple ramps and the outer thwomp walkways are identical tongue   The thing is I am in a lil dillema, b/c the symmetry adds visual and maybe other type balance, but makes grabbing all the coins in the same time limit a lil pain.

Also there is a good chance that it helps save "steps" and some time to have two purple ramps when rolling to the outer far boxes and to the goal after getting all/needed coins.
