Topic: List of NB ideas (It the it)

(7/28/17: I changed the subject of this thread from "custom switch/teleporter field shapes" because I will be posting more ideas later.

Note for all ideas: I someday hope to learn more about code etc. and try to incorporate some, if not all, of these ideas. I am afraid that some of them could water down the gameplay from how it was originally intended to be. (Example: the text in parentheses in idea 3.)

Hi guys,

For a long time I have wished for another, customizable way to shape switch/teleporter (and goal, maybe?) fields in Radiant. I am thinking of being able to draw one or more brushes and linking these into a certain entity (possibly of a new type) in the same manner as func_train. Then the ball could roll into any part of the field of brushes to trigger the corresponding func_train.

This would make it easier to create situations such as the maze that is Argentum's levels 1 (the ball touches any part of the walls of the maze, and an invisible brush knocks the ball into the abyss), obviating the need for tons of info_camp entities. Then again, Elvis and a few other mappers  have been able to do sort of unusual things with only circular (invisible) teleporters, such as

(more ideas:)

2. If you can hold shift to change the speed at which the camera rotation buttons work, I think it would be nice if there were a certain key that would change the speed at which the arrow keys tilt the view/level while it were held. Maybe you could have more than one button that would do the same function at different speeds. With the mouse, each of these buttons would change the mouse sensitivity.

I was thinking of this feature when I began playing Neverball 1.6.0. It felt strange to have the arrow keys tilt the level so much more slowly. I was thinking that with a key that would change the tilt speed when held, you could choose the sensitivity to suit the section of the level you are at. Example: I was playing Nevermainia 14 today using Nuncabola 0.178, which as the keyboard tilt speed of Neverball 1.5.4. This speed helps a lot while riding the disks, whereas (see attached spoiler text). (Now I think that this feature would more benefit keyboard players. If this feature is never added (according to Neverball's name), I guess I will have to "git more gud" with the mouse.)

3. Coins and the fields of teleporters, switches, and goals that would move in the same manner as func_train entities. However: I am afraid that if entities could move, especially coins, mappers would be less likely to come up with clever methods to make certain effects such as the "moving" coins in TDF 3. (Or maybe I am just being silly.)

4. Coins that would have a longer radius than that of the current coin. The values of these coins would still depend on their color.

Re: List of NB ideas (It the it)

There is a config file option for the tilt speed that you can change if you want it to work more like Neverball 1.5. If I want fine control over tilt, then I normally use the mouse. Also, you can tilt a bit farther if you press two arrow keys at the same time (because someone forgot to normalize the tilt vector). Using the manual camera makes it a bit easier to exploit that trick.

Hi camthesaxman,

Just yesterday I read in the Github page that you can make the tilt speed in NB 1.6 mimic that in NB 1.5. Thx for the tip, though.

I have been using angled acceleration (pressing two arrow keys at once) for a long time, since I first played Dave's levels. It has turned out that in my levels, angled acceleration often helps immensly. I think angled acceleration helps differentiate Neverball from other ball-rolling games (that I have played). I hope the developers never remove it. I was afraid they might assuming they are planning to start a new Nevertable, where having no angled acceleration would change the way some replays would be performed.
