Topic: Neverball feature list and similar/related projects

As I had to supply a lot of information for Neverball for the French competition event, I thought I could keep them somewhere so we could use them for promoting our game or anything else.
I put them on the wiki:
- Neverball features
- Neverball related projects

Feel free to correct/add/suggest anything you want.

Nice!

By the way, you spoke on IRC about a "similar" game on Google Code;  I think it was the infamous "Neverball killer" irrlamb.  (Which I've never played due to scary-looking dependencies.)  I also remembered another ball game, Tiltilation.  (It is not free software, though, and that's probably why it seems to be dead already...)  Another ball game I remember testing a little is CG Madness.

Also, "Trackball" -> "Trackballs".  wink

Right! I found it yesterday but after having read the description, I didn't understood how it could be related to Neverball, or even kill it tongue
I watched a video and saw a ball, with a tail, climbing on walls and jumping by itself,no tilting...
I just gave a try, downloading 2 required libs, then the first required 2 more libs and I gave up ^^

I also remembered another ball game, Tiltilation.  (It is not free software, though, and that's probably why it seems to be dead already...)

Just tried it.
Top-down view, poor physics, poor licence wink
I was wondering if we should add proprietary softwares... (also missing SMB of course)
I don't think it would work against Neverball.
However I prefer not adding any links to their website (no advertising for commercial games wink)

Looks like Trackballs, I'll give a try and add it to our wiki.

Also, "Trackball" -> "Trackballs".  wink

Fixed. Only one over three correctly spelled ^^'

Fair enough.

As for Tiltilation, I think it's a good and fairly polished game, but it's already clear that it could've been much better off under a free software licence.  Too bad the author didn't think so.

I don't like so much its graphics.

Agreed...

BTW, there are too much Marble Madness-like games, I'll finish the wiki page later ^^

Re: Neverball feature list and similar/related projects

This is a really good idea.

Another similar game: Hamsterball

BTW I can't seem to log in to that wiki.  Is it the same login as the forum?

Thx smile

Oh, I forgot that game, my brother told be good things about it, be sure I'll add it!

I don't remember how I got my login.
You should contact shino directly.

Re: Neverball feature list and similar/related projects

Simple: you should use "register" feature of the wiki :

http://www.nevercorner.net/wiki/doku.ph … o=register

Re: Neverball feature list and similar/related projects

I think I did most of what I wanted to.
Finally I gave up writing accurate comparisons with Neverball, I preferred only specifying whether it's a floor tilting game or not.
Some dates/months may still be inexact, but it was hard to get a value, and as I wanted to order games chronologically, I needed a value.
If someone wants to check it, feel free and thx wink

Re: Neverball feature list and similar/related projects

A few points:

Hamsterball has no floor tilting - it is fully controlled by arrow keys and mouse movement (floor does not tilt).

Screenshot should probably be from original SMB, not SMB: Marble Blast, which is really SMB 4.

Should probably include Mercury Meltdown Revolution for Wii, as it is floor tilting / rolling game.

OFF TOPIC: can someone update Wikipedia with new info?

Re: Neverball feature list and similar/related projects

Thx tmm for your comment.
I've updated the page, and added a few games.

Re: Neverball feature list and similar/related projects

Woah, that list has quickly gone out of control!  Great work, mym.

By the way, the "mercury" games aren't actually "rolling ball" games, no?  Screen shots suggest it's some kind of a blob being guided by tilting the floor.  That's obviously similar to Neverball, but the "rolling ball" classification isn't appropriate any more.

Sorry parasti, I was thinking more of the tilting floor metaphor (as was MYM).

EDIT: After reading the title of the page again, you are certainly correct parasti. Please remove Mercury games from the Wiki accordingly.

Re: Neverball feature list and similar/related projects

Thx parasti.

I prefer considering the page has a wrong title instead of removing both Mercury's games as they are really close to Neverball principle.
Not sure what is the best solution...

Well, change it back to "other games similar to Neverball"...

16

Re: Neverball feature list and similar/related projects

Ok, let's go for "Games similar to Neverball" smile

17

Re: Neverball feature list and similar/related projects

Thinks that could also be done:
- set supported hardware platforms
- set notes/specificities for each game
- set if it costs some money
- add a list of released versions for each game

18

Re: Neverball feature list and similar/related projects

What about Puttnik and SEB?  wink

big_smile it took me a full day to understand what you meant tongue
I guess it's like Monkey Ball vs Super Monkey Ball, it doesn't worth a section wink

BTW I found another game but haven't tried yet: Snowball Run.
The description I read says you do not tilt the floor but just make it rotate ö_Ô
I'll give a try soon.

Re: Neverball feature list and similar/related projects

Actually, I would love to see a release history for Neverball and Neverputt complete with dates (Do we have that information kicking around?)

Good idea.
I think both hardware and OS are interesting.

Re: Neverball feature list and similar/related projects

this is a great list! I especially like the added screenshot smile

I understand closed source progs are also listed, so maybe add Spectraball ? Never played it, but looks cool smile
