Does your plan include invalidating individual level scores if the major map version changes?

It does now.

Okay, I've raised the coin requirement from 25 to 30. This translates to the ten yellow coins from the first ring, the two red ones from the second and the ten yellow ones from the third. If you don't get all of the above, you can use the blue coins from the second ring to make up for it. I've also reduced the time to 2:00. Should be a bit harder now.

Level: Ladybirds

http://uppgarn.com/files/nevermania/ladybirds-shot-tn.png  http://uppgarn.com/files/nevermania/ladybirds-game-tn.png

In time for Nevermania's fourth anniversary, here's a new level.

The little red-and-black fellas you can see above are the latest creatures to inhabit the Neverball universe. They'll push careless players off of the platforms but may also prove useful if handled correctly. On a technical note, this map makes use of, and indeed is made possible by, the new rotation feature.

Re: Nevermania level set

Wow! Hot off the press. I just built r3515 to have a look at parasti's new shadow fix and saw your commit seconds later. Another great level Elviz. Very nice use of rotation I might add.

Re: Nevermania level set

I just had a quick look. The level looks absolutely stunning. I like the dead ladybirds best (even though they're not rotating). The use of rotation is magnificent.

Has it really been four years since Nevermania 1 ...? yikes Doesn't feel that long.

Re: Nevermania level set

Sure has. His first level was posted on March 14, 2007.

Glad you like it. Rotation was most important for the patrolling beetles, but it also saved the day when it came to creating two additional switch-controlled blockers within the limited space of the goal platform. Before coming up with the revolving doors, I had tried a number of non-rotating obstacles, and they all tended to be ugly or unintuitive.

Understandable, as those cause the least amount of trouble. ^^

Re: Nevermania level set

At first I thought this level would be easy! But then when I tried this level, it was really hard which is just how it should be! yikes Anyway, I thought of a level of your level set Elviz! And it's tube rolling! You must stay on the tube that the round thowmp that is rolling the tube (and is inside of the tube) or else you'll fall on the tipped floor (which the tube that round thowmp is rolling) and fall out! And of course the main reason why you must stay on the tube is so you can get to the platform that the goal is on! And again of course there are coins all over the path were the ball will be when the ball is on the tube.

Re: Nevermania level set

More renovation work.

spacetime.map, v2

  • Squashed several shortcuts

  • Adjusted the general platform/rail proportions; in particular, the longer rails now use the more common 4-sector spacing (as in Easy 01 and others)

  • Made grabbing the first blue coin a more challenging task

  • On the top platform, also put caution signs on the far side of the gaps

  • Installed parking meters along the path to the last switch

  • The goal-blocking gates now open sideways instead of hovering in the air without a visible support mechanism

  • Made brick edges more consistent with the rest of the set (done a while ago)

Thought I'd let you know that I succeeded in grabbing all 400 coins using the latest version of the level from the SVN trunk. Turns out that once you sit down and make a conscious effort, it's manageable. (The resulting replay is confidential, though.)

Level: Buoys

http://uppgarn.com/files/nevermania/buoys-shot-tn.png  http://uppgarn.com/files/nevermania/buoys-game-tn.png

This latest Nevermania level features timing puzzles in maritime surroundings. Find out how floating buoys and coloured gates tie together, and then use your skills to reach goal-un(b)locking switches and coins. Don't expect to solve this in five minutes (you only get three anyway ^^).

Based on where these levels have been commited, combined with the consistently high quality he has achieved, these levels will most assuredly be in the next stable version.

Re: Nevermania level set

mountains.map, v2

  • Replaced the old goal cage with the one from Ladybirds to increase intra-set consistency

  • Changed the secondary goal blocker to use a variation of the revolving doors—these provide a clearer mechanism than the mysteriously vanishing chrome bars

  • Removed the non-structural outline—while pleasant by itself, it didn't fit in with the rest of the game

  • Edging tweaks

Re: Nevermania level set

Is that version of mountains.map using rotating objects? In Neverball 1.5.4 I can't unlock with switches the goal!

Yes. The new version is not compatible with Neverball 1.5.4.

Well, you already can... but only in the development version. (Some jerk has been putting off the release of Neverball 1.6.0 for way too long now.)
